Microsoft Office 2007 (codenamed Office 12) is a version of Microsoft Office, a family of office suites and productivity software for Windows, developed and published by Microsoft. It was released to volume license customers on November 30, 2006 and to retail customers on January 30, 2007, the same respective release dates of Windows Vista. It was preceded by Office 2003 and succeeded by Office 2010.

Office 2007 introduced a new graphical user interface called the Fluent User Interface, which uses ribbons and an office start menu instead of menu bars and toolbars. Office 2007 requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, or a later OS. Office 2007 is the last version of Microsoft Office to support Windows XP Professional x86 Edition.

Office 2007 includes new applications and server-side tools, includingMicrosoft Office Groove, a collaboration and communication suite for smaller businesses, which was originally developed by Groove Networks before being acquired by Microsoft in 2005. Also included isOffice SharePoint Server 2007, a major revision to the server platform for Office applications, which supports Excel Services, a client-server architecture for supporting Excel workbooks that are shared in real time between multiple machines, and are also viewable and editable through a web page.

With Microsoft FrontPage discontinued, Microsoft SharePoint Designer, which is aimed towards development of SharePoint portals, becomes part of the Office 2007 family. Its designer-oriented counterpart,Microsoft Expression Web, is targeted for general web development. However, neither application has been included in Office 2007 software suites.

Speech and ink components are removed from Office 2007, since speech recognition and handwriting recognition were integrated into Windows Vista. Handwriting and speech recognition work with Office 2007 only on Windows Vista or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. However, XP users can use an earlier version of Office to use speech recognition.

 

According to Forrester Research, as of May 2010, Microsoft Office 2007 is used in 81% of enterprises it surveyed (its sample comprising 115 North American and European enterprise and SMB decision makers).

Adobe Shockwave (formerly Macromedia Shockwave) is a multimediaplatform for building interactive multimedia applications and video games. Content is developed with Adobe Director and published on the Internet. Such content can be viewed in a web browser on any computer with the Shockwave Player plug-in installed. It was first developed by Macromedia, and released in 1995 and was later acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005. Shockwave supports raster graphics, basic vector graphics, 3D graphics, audio, and an embedded scripting language called Lingo

Shockwave is a common format for CD-ROM projectors, kiosk presentations, and interactive video games, and dominated the interactive multimedia product space during the 1990s. Various graphic adventure games were developed with Shockwave during the 1990s, including The Journeyman Project, Total Distortion, Mia's Language Adventure, Mia's Science Adventure, and the Didi & Ditto series. Hundreds of free online video games were developed using Shockwave, and published on websites such as Miniclip and Shockwave.com.

As of July 2011, a survey found that Flash Player had 99% market penetration in desktop browsers in "mature markets" (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand), while Shockwave Player claimed only 41% in these markets.

As of 2008, Adobe Flash and Adobe AIR are preferred (incompatible) alternatives to Shockwave, with its 3D rendering capabilities, object-oriented programming language, and capacity to run as a native executable on multiple platforms.

Macromedia

In 1993, Macromedia acquired MacroMind, and took over the development of the Shockwave platform. As the Internet became more popular, Macromedia realized the potential for a web-based multimedia platform, and designed Shockwave Player for the leading web browser of the time, Netscape Navigator. Shockwave Player was released with Director 4.0 around 1995, and branded Shockwave Player 1.0. Its versioning has since been tied to Director's versioning, skipping versions 2 to 4. Shockwave was now a two-part system, a graphics and animation editor known as Macromedia Director, and a player known as Macromedia Shockwave Player.

Adobe

Macromedia was acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005, and the entire Macromedia product line including Flash,Dreamweaver, Director/Shockwave and Authorware was now handled by Adobe. Director and Shockwave Player is currently developed and distributed by Adobe Systems.

The early 2000s saw a demise in the usage of Director/Shockwave, and most multimedia professionals preferredMacromedia Flash and other competing platforms. After the Adobe acquisition, no new versions were released for four years.

As of 2008, the market position of Director/Shockwave overlapped with Flash to a high degree, the only advantage of Director being its native 3D capabilities.^[10] However, with the release of Flash Player 11, GPU-based 3D rendering was now supported using Stage3D (the underlying API), Away3D or Flare3D (3D game engines). And after Adobe AIR was released, Flash programs could now be published as native applications, further reducing the need for Director

Microsoft Office 2003 is an office suite written and distributed by Microsoft for their Windows operating system. Released to manufacturing on August 19, 2003 and launched on October 21, 2003, it was the successor to Office XP and the predecessor to Office 2007.

It is the final version of Office to have the "97-2003" file format as default across all applications, as well as being the final version to include the toolbar and menu interfaces across the core applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and parts of Outlook). A compatibility pack was released for Office 2003 for new OOXML formats in 2007.

A new Office logo was debuted as part of a rebranding effort by Microsoft, as well as two new applications: InfoPath and OneNote. OneNote is a note-taking and organizing application for text, handwritten notes or diagrams, recorded audio and graphics, and InfoPath is an application for designing, distributing, filling and submitting electronic forms containing structured data. Office 2003 was the first version to use Windows XP style icons, visual styles and colors. However, Office 2003 could automatically match colors of Windows XP themes.

Office 2003 runs only on NT-based versions of Windows; it is not supported on Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT 4.0. It is the last version of Office compatible with Windows 2000, as Office 2007 requires Windows XP or newer. It is listed as being "Not Compatible" with Windows 8 by the Microsoft Windows 8 Compatibility Center, although most users have claimed it is compatible.

Office 2003 was released on July 27, 2004, Service Pack 2 was released on September 27, 2005, and Service Pack 3 was released on September 17, 2007. The last cumulative update for Office 2003, Service Pack 3 resolved several compatibility and stability issues with Windows Vista and later operating systems, and is a roll-up release that contains Service Packs 1 and 2 along with other updates previously released under Windows Update. Mainstream support for Office 2003 ended
April 14, 2009, and extended support April 8, 2014, the same times as Windows XP.

Foxit Reader is a multilingual freemium PDF tool that can create, view, edit, digitally sign, and print PDF files. Foxit Reader is developed by Fremont, California-based Foxit Software Incorporated. Early versions of Foxit Reader were notable for startup performance and small file size. Foxit v3.0 was found to be comparable to Adobe Reader.The Windows version allows annotating and saving unfinished PDF forms,FDF import/export, converting to text, highlighting and drawing.

Editions

As of 2015 Foxit Reader was available for Windows Vista and later,Apple iOS, Windows RT, Android and Windows Phone. Earlier Foxit versions support earlier operating systems (Windows 9x and later,Windows Mobile). Foxit Reader 4.1.1 can be installed on unsupported versions of Windows such as Windows 98SE, by installing KernelEX 4.5 first. Version history with release notes is available from Foxit, although not including release dates. However, other sites do provide release dates, some with more detail on changes.

Issues

With version 6.1.4, the Foxit installer was bundled with potentially unwanted programs like OpenCandy which installed the browser-hijacking malware Conduit. Following complaints from users, it was removed after version 6.2.1.

In July 2014, the Internet Storm Center reported that the mobile version for iPhone was transmitting unencrypted telemetry and other data to remote servers located in China despite users attempting to opt out of such data collection.
